~ Conference to be held April 3-6 2011 at the Fairmont Southampton Princess in Bermuda ~

HAMILTON, Bermuda (13 July, 2010) – Caribbean and international tourism specialists, policymakers, planners, practitioners and other persons interested in tourism will meet here from 3-6 April 2011 to discuss the sustainability of the Caribbean's bread and butter sector.

The Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO), along with the Bermuda Department of Tourism today confirmed the date for the 12th Annual Caribbean Conference on Sustainable Tourism Development – also called the Sustainable Tourism Conference (STC-12)- following a meeting to begin planning for the event. Premier, Dr. the Hon. Ewart Brown JP, MP, had first suggested the date when he was presented with the CTO Sustainable Tourism Mahogany Scroll by CTO Chairman Hon. John Maginley during Caribbean Week in New York in June.

Today, the Acting Minister of Tourism and Transport, the Hon. Zane DeSilva, JP, MP said, "This upcoming conference is indeed a critical one for Bermuda tourism, for Bermuda's residents and for the Caribbean region as a whole. We eagerly look forward to hosting it, and I am encouraging the entire Island to rally behind our efforts to ensure its success."

Bermuda was named the host of STC-12 at the end of the 11th Sustainable Tourism Conference in Barbados in May, but the CTO said at the time that a date and venue had not yet been agreed.

The conference organizers have also now announced the Fairmont Southampton Princess as the venue for the 3-6 April 2011 confab.

The CTO organizes the Conference on Sustainable Tourism Development as part of the information dissemination and regional awareness component of its Strategy for Sustainable Tourism. Every year, the conference examines critical issues relating to the sustainability of the region's tourism sector, and explores creative solutions to many of the challenges facing CTO Member Countries.

A comprehensive and dynamic programme is being planned to include the customary study.
